Tomatoes

Bought some great tomato plants at Tomatomania.

Old favorites: Sungold, Paul Robeson, Pierce Pride, Cherokee Purple.

Some new adventures: Mr. Stripey, Goldmans Italian American, Ramapo, Carmello.

Preparing this year for canning by buying some determinates: Martino’s Roma, La Roma, Taxi.

Now we need to find room for them. I uprooted some mature herb plants that were in prime sunny spots to make room for tomatoes. I dried some of the herbs to store for cooking. I also put some in pots to replant in shadier areas.

Planning for Solar

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We are working with solarcity.com to lease solar panels for 20 years. We just received the permits and hope to have them installed next week, weather pending. This will take care of 85% of our use and leasing is a fraction of the cost. I will post how long it takes to break even we are est. 3 years.

Chicks Personalities

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I picked these types for their laying and reputation for being docile. They already have personalities.

The black Australorp, “Austra”: very shy.

The yellow Red Star “Butters”, sooo sweet, she jumps into my hands.

The white Easter Egger with black spots “speck”, at first she was aggressive but now is the second snuggler.

The brown Easter Egger “roost”, very aggressive and flighty.
